Pathogen Genomics
Paul Keim, Ph.D. Director & Sr. Investigator
The Pathogen Genomics Division is a joint program between TGen and Northern Arizona University that is designed to bolster the nation’s biodefense through improved forensical analysis of pathogens such as anthrax. The division is also focused on understanding the interactions between man and microbe to develop new therapeutics and diagnostics to alleviate the human ailments caused by dangerous pathogens. The division is also working to develop an improved understanding of disease movement to reduce and control the incidence of disease.
In May 2006, TGen and NAU launched TGen's Center for Pathogen Diagnostics, or TGen North, located in Flagstaff. The scientific focus of TGen North is to use the genomic technology and tools TGen typically applies to disease and apply them to biodefense, pathogen diagnostics and microbial forensics, thereby continuing TGen's mission of developing earlier diagnoses and smarter treatments. The launch of TGen North in Flagstaff is significant step for both establishing a biosciences corridor in Arizona and furthering economic development in Flagstaff.
